Psychosocial theories are thethose that analyse the development that occuroccurs throughout a person’s life in stages. According to Erik Erikson, there are 8 stages of Psychosocial Development. Stagespsychosocial development: Stage 1: - Trust vs. Mistrust, Stage 2: - Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, Stage 3: - Initiative vs. Guilt, Stage 4: - Industry vs. Inferiority, Stage 5: - Identity vs. Confusion, Stage 6: - Intimacy vs. Isolation, Stage 7: - Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Stage 8: - Integrity vs. Despair. For each stage there is an age set forgroup associated to it, but the ages are not set in stone, because there can be a delayed response in behavior, which can be unhealthy and mentally challenging for a person, but it can all be resolved later on.
The Psychosocial Theory places meAccording to the psychosocial theories I am currently in the Intimacy vs. Isolation stage, which is stage 6. I'm currently 19 years old, and even though the stage ages groups aren't set in stone, but I feel like this is the stage I'm going through right now. This stage occurs from the agesusually includes people aged between 18 toand 40 years old. The main focus withof this stage is forming a loving relationship with other people, being intimate with others. During this stage we begin to view intamiceintimacy on a different level, like a long termlong-term relationship with someone else other than family. We learn commitment, trust, loyalty. Accepting another partner, being committed and viewing the relationship as ain the long term, then you'veyou successfully completedcomplete the stage and itthis usually leads to a happy relationship, withcharaterised by safety, care and commitment.
