John F. Kennedy Middle School, 1958,. JFK Middle was one of the worst Schoolschools in the country because of all the gang violence around the neighborhood and the antipathy the studentstudents felt for thetheir teachers and the school.

Bruno was from Cuba. heHe had to move to the US and go to JFK Middle because of an earthquake that happenhad happened in cube,Cuba and would soon go to JFK Middle. Bruno dubiousdoubted that he was going towould make new friends at his new School (JFK Middle)school.

Three days before Bruno came to the US, he went to see his girlfriend Valentina for the last time to say goodbye. heHe was feeling plaintive because he had to leave his girlfriend Valentina behind, but Valentina was happy for Bruno and she. She was complacentpleased that Bruno was going to have a batterbetter life if he leave to gowent to the US. Valentina kept cajoledcajoling Bruno about the positives of leaving.

When Bruno was on the airplaneairplane, he was pensive about how his new life and his knownew school were going to turn out.
