I grew up in a remote area of Bangladesh. From childhood, I have seen people in the village suffer from various diseases. And later, they ultimately were not able to escape from death. I always thought to myself-myself, even asking: why is this happening and how can I help these helpless people? From that time, my young mind cherished the desire to do something for those destitute and helpless people in the village. Besides, luckilyLuckily, I got an opportunity to listen to a talk entitled “Communicable Disease Management” delivered by a representative from the World Health Organization (WHO) who visited our village thenat that time. Two words - ‘research and researcher’ caught my attention. He reiterated several times in his speech that researchers have done immensea lot to fight the deadly diseases, and that there is still much to be done. Later, from various TV programs and scientific magazinemagazines I learned that Researchersresearchers could save millions of lives by exploring new treatments and medications such as drug(s) and vaccine(s). Since then, I was just captivated with the word ‘research’ and further set up my goal to be a researcher. So, I decided to study biological science as a major when I was in high school, and studying biology was a matter of joy and love to me. My passion for biology increased at university, when I gotwas selected infor the Biotechnology program, because it introduced me to a diverse field of biological and biomedical sciences. After the successful completion of my BSc and MS program, I joined as a scientific officer in a government research institute. The institute provides me a platform to meet my dream that was seeded in my mind during childhood. Human genetics, cancer biology, and population genetics are my main research interests.
