No eggs hatched within 24 hours of oviposition in both splashed and non-agitated groups. However, the overall hatch rate started increasing on the 2nd day, with the oldest species exhibiting an outstandingly a high rate of hatching. The hatching continued and spread among the oldest species from day 2-6, while the youngest strain, An. coluzzii (VK) spread from day 2-7. Significant differences were observed among species, and there were interactive effects of treatments on individual species. Across all conditions, differential hatching distribution was observed based on the lab rearing history; in order of their respective ages. In bidirectional selection, fast hatchers were similar to slow hatchers in that slow hatchers still possess a few fast hatching ones, but there were significant differences across the generations. The slow hatchers exhibited later mean time to hatch compared to the fast hatchers.
