Chiho Ikebe joined our CMS Team in March 2020 as the Data Assistant. She has had an extensive research career in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Translational Research. She obtained her PhD in Medical Science studying the Ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation pathway in yeast genetics. She moved to London from Japan 15 years ago to work for Cancer Research UK as a postdoc where she identified a novel centrosome component in yeast and studied its function using yeast genetics, zebrafish (Morpholino) and mammalian cell lines (siRNA). Then she worked as a postdoc at Queen Mary University within the Translational Cardiovascular Therapeutics Group where she focused on the novel Mesenchymal Stem Cells sheet therapy for heart disease. She joined the museum 6 years ago as a full-time volunteer in Mollusca and in Molecular Collections facility working on the Vietnamese Land Snail Fauna project. During that time, she curated and databased the specimens as well as DNA-based taxonomic research (barcoding) and achieved two London wide Volunteer Awards in 2014 and 2015. Then she worked on three different projects (ABYSSLINE, SCAN and Priapiumfish) as a Research Assistant, including curation, databasing and DNA-based taxonomic research. In her spare time, she enjoys baking especially cheesecake(especially cheesecake) and now tries to adopt WFH life with tiny three fishesfish which she decided to rescue from our aquarium room (hidden place!) at the NHM when the museum announced to closeits closure.
