As an IB student, do your learning of literature, the arts and other human sciences contribute to your knowledge of human being in a different way than your learning of natural sciences?
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme enables learning onat the highest level. It focuses on the comprehensive development of the student. Human sciences, natural sciences and mathematics are considered equal in the programme. In my opinion, as an IB student, learning of the literature and the arts contributes to my knowledge about humanhumanity in a different way than learning of natural sciences. In the human sciences, people mostly produce knowledge. They may gain perspectives on other philosophyphilosophies, theorytheories, outlookoutlooks on life, which were already invented by someone else. In the literature, everything about humanhumanity has been written by a human, because it was he, whoof the linguistic records that were invented in the Mesopotamia region around 3100 B.C invented linguistic records. In natural sciences, we can mostly gain knowledge. Nature laws were, are and will be as long as our world exists. AThe human will to investigate and write down observations for future generations is needed. NextThe next difference is that the human sciences aim to achieve understanding. Comprehension,; comprehension that we can translate in other words as an emotional process of assimilation of knowledge, which is subjective. The reason for this is the use of qualitative research, which concentrates on exploring ideas. It is mainly stated in words by conducting interviews or discussion in a focus group. In contrast, with its,the natural sciences are concerned aboutwith explaining. A human tries to make them understandable and looks for cause and effect relationships by using quantitative research. It is directed on testing hypothesishypotheses and thesistheses.
