Many studies approximate that America alone uses 500 million plastic straws daily, contributing to the 8.3 billion plastic straws that pollute our planet's beaches. These statistics contribute to the death of sea-life,sea life and the release of microplastics, and affect the human population’s health as a whole. Many believe reducing and ultimately removing straws from production and use will create a more sustainable environment, and as a result, would improve our way of life. But does any of this matter?
Id argues would argue no. At first glance, bans on plastic straws seem like a perfect option in the fight to stay sustainable and environmentally conscious, but as corporations and manufacturers start to join this movement, new conflicts arise. Firstly, stores that rely on plastic straws would need to find a replacement, which tends to be pricier, leaving them in financial instability. With all this demand for degradablebiodegradable and reusable straws, the factories would be unable to reach the proper quota. Another issue is that the disabled and some patients are unable to drink a refreshmentliquids without strawsthe assistance of straws. There would have to be a new invention that could counteract such an issue, these issues without causing dissensions ordissension or further issues.
