At the beginning of February this year, on container vessel "Emma Maersk", there was a serious failure. VesselThe vessel with 13,537 containers was entering tothe Suez Canal, when tothe lower parts of the engine room started comingtaking on water. VesselThe vessel was lost its propulsion plant and was started drifteddrifting, due to flooding of the main engine. VesselThe vessel was transferedtransferred to Port Said by the tugstugs, which waswere called for help. During this failure the crew lifecrew's lives and cargo weren't threatened. UnderwaterThe underwater part of the hull was unsealed despite that thethe vessel had not beenbeing in a collision or in contact with the seabed before. Sea water was entering tothe vessel throughtthrough one of the aft bow thrusterthrusters and after was everaldamaged several rotor blades of the thruster, which also caused the channel to crack, where isthe mounted device is. EntryThe entry hole of the damaged thruster on Emma Maersk has been patched,; however, the vessel probably will be out of service.
