The current school reform initiatives make it clear that all teachers are responsible for student literacy learning thus impacting the need for continued research in this area. I learned that many content area teachers love to read and value reading as an important skill for students to master. I was also surprised to hear several teachers willingly admit that they did not feel qualified to teach reading to their students. I found that these same teachers desire to collaborate with colleagues across the curriculum. Research is needed in the area of removing barriers to teacher collaborative learning through the use of various methods, including technology. Further examination in the area of collaborative professional development models would be beneficial.
