There was a folktale story a long time ago about how the New Year Celebration first started. There was a shaman-hero that goeswent by the name of Txoov Siv Yis, and he defeated the evil spirit Liv Nyoog, who ate Hmong peoples in the villages. When Txoov Siv Yis defeated the evil spirit, he then called for all the Hmong people to come out of hiding and to celebrate their freedom from the evil spirit. So then, all the clan leaders from each village met so they can discuss the details on the Hmong New Year. The clan leaders planned the festival so that every Hmong family who lives infrom different villages cancould come.
