It has been identified that hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) is a hallmark sign of diabetes. The case study expresses that Anne is finding it hard to keep to the diet recommended by the dietitian, to help maintain normal blood glucose. thisThis is on the grounds that her daughter Jacinta doesn’t like the type of food suggested by the dietitian. Toto understand how to provide Anne with person-centred care regarding her glucose control.
The relationship between her culture and her health beliefs must be recognised. Urie Bronfrebrenner (1977 ), suggested a model known as ‘bronfrebrenner model’the ‘Bronfrebrenner Model’ which explains the ecological system theory of development. (see Appendix C). Using a macrosystem section of this model, healthcare professionals can determine the effects of culture on an individual’s health. For Anne, the model may point out how her culture is likely to be as important to her as an Afro Caribbean woman, and may have an impact on her food choices. “Helping individuals manage their diabetes, including African-Caribbean people, needs to involve an understanding of their culture”
