“Sweet awéé do not fear. youYou have created a creature who at times can be dangerous but can also help guide you and your village, this. This was no accident, it was a gift. youYou will need to gain its trust or you will live in fear of your creature.” withWith these words the vision began to fade. I sit up and turn around and then I walk back towardstoward the canyon where I find the animal. itIt stands up on its back legs which makes it twice my size. I think back to the stories my mother would tell.
“Hello there,” I saysaid.
“I have created you to be a friend and a protector.” theThe animal began to sit down as if it understood everything I was saying. I suddenly found courage and walked up to it. I lifted my hand and moved it towards ittoward the creature. I slowly touched its hair; it was smooth and soft. I looked into its eyes and whispered
, “I'll call you bear'Bear,' in memory of my mother.” and withWith that I walked away knowing our tribe was safe with this gift called bearBear.
