In his novel, The Kite Runner, author Khaled Hosseini writes about a twelve year oldtwelve-year-old boy, living in Afghanistan who is a coward and redeems himself later in life. Amir hides whatwho he really is, and this quote shows it. Many characters in the novel bring out Amir’s cowardice in the novel.
Amir’s Father, Baba, is strong and powerful. Amir knows that winning is the most important thing to his father, and that he does not support Amir’s sensitivitiessensitivity. This effects Amir by, making him feel as if he is not good enough to be Baba’s son.
Also, there is Amir’s best friend, Hassan, who andis a lower class servant, and who Hassan is stronger, both mentally and physically, than Amir. Hassan has stood up for him more than once, and has even taken a beatings for Amir.
Lastly, there wasis Assef, a Pashtun bully. Assef torments Amir, and makes him feel weak and powerless. Amir is afraid of Assef, and cannot stand up to him, even when Assef is sexually assaulting his friend Hassan.
