The potato faminePotato Famine was due to a potato disease that spread throughout Ireland. This disease was called late blight, and itwhich is known for destroying the leaves, and edible roots, or the tubers, of the potato. This disease started in 1845 and lasted for 4 years until 1849. The potato famine killed around 1 million people in Ireland, but many others died from starvation.
