The early nurse showed proper nurse to patient communication. She explained to the patient the problem, plan, and future procedure. The person accompanying the patient was desperate after the long wait, as she stated, “This is kind of ridiculous”. Nurse A handled the situation by explaining that someone was coming for help.
Nurse A explained to Rebecca (second nurse), who the patient was and why she was admitted. She did not state the patient's age though. I believe good communication during shift change should start with the patient's age, sex, diagnosis, and history. Nurse A did, however, explain the diagnosis and labs properly. Answering a question or concern is a way of effectively communicating.
