The first person Iago takes advantage of is Rodrigo, by using his admiration for Desdemona. Iago saw that Roderigo's jealousy of Othello canould be used to his advantage. So Iago baited Rodrigo by promising him a chance with Desdemona. Iago saysid to him, “Thou art sure of me. Go make money. I have told thee often, and I re-tell thee again and again, I hate the Moor. My cause is hearted: thine hath no less reason. Let us be conjunctive in our revenge against him” ( 1.3.340-342). EvDespiten his affections for Desdemona, Iago convinces Roderigo to join forces with him to take down Othello. Roderigo is used by Iago to get things done without dirtying his hands. But Iago was never going to help Roderigo get together with Desdemona. In the last Act, he ends up killing Roderigo to cover his tracks.
