Existing since the 13th century in the Low Vistula, the State of Teutonic Order, from ithes very beginning had very limited human resources, comprising mainly brother-knights and broad circle of local servants. The knight-brothers, whicho came ftor the service in the 13th century, were largely recruited from Saxony and Thuringia. This enlistment was nevertheless insufficient, leading to the basing of Order military activity on armed visitors; Order guests, arriving ftor fight withe infidels for strictly limited time period. They came from different layers of society: aristocracy/, noblemen, bourgeoisie. Amongst the guests inwho coaminge during the 13th century there were also Piast dukes (Gładysz 2002, 204-239, 255-271, 312-323). Visitors from the Western and South-Western regions of the Empire had, however, more significant importance. In the next century the number of crusaders from other regions of different parts of Europe was constantly increasing (Kwiatkowski 2016, 128).
