Perhaps a more ostentatious title than needed, necessary: "Sociocultural and educational factors for reading literacy decline in the Netherlands in the past decade.", explores many avenues as to why the Netherlands has experienced a decline in literacy from children of ten years old. SES, ethnicity, linguistic background and number of books in the home, among other variables, were all studied to find the answer; however, many were futile. Dr. Andrea Netten, Director of IEA in Amsterdam and Marinus Voeten, Psychology researcher at the University of Turku - the two leading researchers with support from Meinke Droop and Ludo Verhoeven – continued explaining how each variable should affect their claim but did not. In a conscious decision, while all hope seems to be lost, the researchers reveal that thethe true cause of declining literacy rates;: gender, student SES, educational factors of early literacy activities in the home, and early literacy abilities established in the schoolschools. Redeeming the article, this final revelation shows that this article is not misleading, simply unfocused and too long.
