In "the lessonThe Lesson" by Toni Bambara, there are many things to takelearn from the story. A young lady is trying to make kids from her community understand one goal. Though she decides to teach the lesson in many ways and concepts she hopes to make the group of kids better and understand society. The kids may not get why Miss Moore is doing what she is doing, but Miss Moore knowknows what she wants to get out of this. The lesson is about social inequality and lack of quality education for African American children, though. Though Sylvia resists the lesson at times, at the end she does get it.
In the story, Miss Moore useuses a number of ways to teach the essential lesson. When the group first get together at the mailbox, Miss Moore asks, “do we know what money is is?" This is the first form of teaching she trying to useis using. Making Sylvia responsible for the money is teaching her money responsibility. Sylvia does not know that though (Bambara 147). Sylvia147.)Sylvia says, "She is boring us silly about what things cost and what our parents make and how much rent costcosts." Miss Moore is using a tactic that makes the kids think about such things.
