'I aAm a lLegend' is a science fiction movie directed by Francis Lawrence and released in 2007.

It has been adapted from the novel of the same name, written by Richard Matheson in 1954. The movie has mostly been produced in New York cCity, and mainly stars the well known American actor, Will Smith. It has been nominated for many awards and won the Teen Choice Award and the ASCAP award in 2008.

The movie begins with a sequence of an interview with a scientist who believes she has found the solution to cancer. The film stops there and continues 3 years after that scene, in a  New York that has been completely deserted by death and disease. Through the movie, we understand that what we thought was a way to cure cancer, was in fact changing humans into mutants victims of the disease. In New York, the only survivor of that chaos is the scientist Robert Neville (Will Smith). He spends his days walking in the city with his dog, searching for food and supplies that can be useful. As his family members are all dead, his only motivation to survive is the hope that he could find a way to reverse the effects of the virus and save the humanity. Through a radio message, Robert is joined by a woman (Alice Braga) and her son (Charlie Tahan) that will stay with him for the rest of his adventure.

'I aAm a lLegend', is a really good movie, but as a lot of fictional movie, there is a couple of things that seem a little unreal. A good example would be the fact that the mutants are acting like vampires, fearing the sun and waking up at dawn. On the other side, the specials effects combined with the way it’s filmed makes us forget about the unreal aspect of the film.

For many reasons, I would highly recommend 'I aAm a lLegend'. This movie has the power to make us realize how vulnerable our specie can be. It is a touching movie where we can see the determination of a survivor to save his specie, and the relationship that can be built between a man and his dog.
